A new standard for messaging RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a huge leap forward for text and multimedia communication on smartphones compared to the almost 30-year-old SMS (Short Message Service) standard. Samsung promised to implement it four years ago, in its default messaging app on devices Galaxy but is only now being received.

Some smartphone users Galaxy noticed a notification in the Samsung Messages app these days prompting them to turn on RCS messages. The notice informs them that RCS messaging in Samsung's default "messaging" app is based on Google's implementation of the service, making it "more feature-rich, faster, and better-quality messaging over Wi-Fi or mobile data."

Once the service is turned on, users will be able to send text messages, high-resolution images and videos, respond to messages, and have typing indicators available. In addition, the new communication standard offers improved group chat features, the ability to see when other users are reading chats, or end-to-end encryption (however, this feature is still only in beta).

The Samsung Messages app previously supported the service, but only when activated by a mobile operator. However, Samsung is no longer dependent on carriers to implement it, so users can enjoy it even if their carrier is a supporter of the old standard. Let's also add that Google and Samsung have been working together on the service since 2018.
