Almost exactly a year ago, Samsung launched a QLED TV with 8K resolution, and this year it seems that it will expand its offer with 8K TVs. It is expected to unveil its new 8K TVs tomorrow at The First Look event and at CES 2021, which starts next week. The tech giant has now announced that its TVs will be compatible with the updated 8K Association standards.

The organization recently updated the requirements for TVs to receive its 8KA Certified certification. In addition to existing requirements for resolution, brightness, color and connectivity standards, 8K TVs are now required to be compatible with a wider set of video decoding standards and multi-dimensional surround sound.

“With the 8K Association's support in promoting standards that include audio-video performance and interface standards, we expect more households to choose 8K TVs and to see more 8K content available in those households this year, offering an exceptional viewing experience home theater," said Samsung Electronics America Director of Product Planning Dan Schinasi.

The organization includes TV brands, cinemas, studios, display manufacturers, processor brands and more. It probably won't surprise anyone that Samsung and Samsung Display are among its core members.
