Samsung has started rolling out the January security patch. Flagships that are several years old are the first to receive it at the moment Galaxy S9 a Galaxy S9 +.

The distribution of the update with the latest security patch is currently limited to users in Germany. As always, however, it should soon expand to other countries and devices. It is roughly 113 MB and carries firmware version G960FXXSDFTL (Galaxy S9) and G965FXXSDFTL1 (Galaxy S9+). It is not known at this time what bugs the patch fixes – the South Korean tech giant said informace for security reasons, it usually publishes several days late. The update doesn't include any new features, which isn't surprising given the age of the phones.

If you are the owner of the above-mentioned phones and you are currently in Germany, you have probably already been notified of the latest update. If it hasn't, you can always check its availability manually by opening it Settings, by tapping the option Software update and selecting an option Download and install.

It's quite surprising that Samsung started rolling out the new security patch first to almost three-year-old smartphones – current or past flagships are usually the first recipients of these updates. Maybe he wanted to send a message that he doesn't forget about even such old phones in terms of security.
