Samsung and Google jointly announced yesterday that the former's SmartThings smart home platform will be integrated into the popular Google app starting next week Android Car. The integration will allow app users to control the platform's compatible smart devices directly from their car's display.

During yesterday's presentation, Samsung briefly demonstrated how the integration of SmartThings in Android Car look. In the application, users will see shortcuts to quickly control smart home devices that are connected to the platform of the South Korean technology giant. In one image, Samsung showed several routines along with access to devices such as the thermostat, robotic vacuum cleaner and a smart dishwasher.

The image also showed a "Location" button, but it's not entirely clear what it's for at this point. However, it may be intended for those who have multiple dwellings with various smart home devices. It is also not clear whether the new integration will be able to be controlled via the smart Google Assistant.

The announcement comes about a month after Google announced that Nest devices would work with Samsung's platform starting in January of this year. This means that if you own a Nest Hub or other devices of this brand, you can easily control them through SmartThings directly from Android Car or phone series Galaxy S21.
