Samsung is not only known as a giant in the field of smartphones and televisions, it also has a strong position in the field of SSD drives. It has now launched a new affordable drive of this type called the 870 Evo, which is the successor to the 860 Evo drive. According to him, it will offer almost 40% higher speed than its predecessor.

The new drive features Samsung's latest V-NAND controller, which allows it to achieve a maximum sequential read speed of 560 MB/s and write speed of 530 MB/s. The South Korean tech giant also boasts that the drive offers up to 38% faster random read speeds than the 860 Evo.

The novelty is not nearly as fast as the Samsung 970 series of drives, whose sequential reading speed reaches up to 3500 MB/s, or other M.2 drives. So it is not entirely suitable for gamers and other demanding users. On the contrary, it will suit those who want to use the SSD disk, for example, for storing multimedia files, browsing the web or multitasking.

The 870 Evo will go on sale later this month and will be available in four variants – 250GB, 500GB, 2TB and 4TB. The first mentioned will cost 50 dollars (approximately 1 crowns), the second 100 dollars (approximately 80 CZK), the third 1 dollars (about 700 crowns) and the last 270 dollars (roughly 5 CZK). The most advantageous options for most customers will probably be the first two.
