Last week it became clear that the models of the new flagship series of Samsung Galaxy S21 in the US, the MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) contactless payment feature of Samsung Pay is missing. Now it looks like it won't be available in other markets either.

According to unofficial reports, it will be in India at least, which means that users of the new series of phones there will not be able to make payments in places that do not have NFC-enabled machines. In addition, it is not so widespread here, and many people rely on MST. As the website SamMobile points out, it is not easy to find out exactly in which markets the phones are available Galaxy S21s have access to this feature and which ones don't. Samsung does not mention this on its local websites.

MST works by mimicking the magnetic stripe signal of a credit or debit card at a Point of Sale (PoS) device, enabling contactless payments where NFC is not available. Samsung apparently believes that mobile payment via NFC is already widespread enough that MST is no longer necessary to have in smartphones. After all, this is also evidenced by the fact that he stopped adding the function to his smart watches a while ago.
