As you know, Samsung is a leading semiconductor manufacturer thanks to its dominance in the memory chip market. It has recently invested heavily in advanced logic chips to better compete with semiconductor behemoth TSMC. Now the news has leaked into the air, according to which Samsung plans to build its most advanced factory for the production of logic chips in the USA, specifically in the state of Texas, for more than 10 billion dollars (roughly 215 billion crowns).

According to Bloomberg quoted by the website SamMobile, Samsung hopes that the 10 billion investment will help it get more clients in the US, such as Google, Amazon or Microsoft, and compete more effectively with TSMC. Samsung is said to be planning to build a factory in the Texas capital of Austin, with construction to begin this year and major equipment to be installed next year. The actual production of chips (specifically based on the 3nm process) should then start in 2023.

However, Samsung is not the only company with this idea. Coincidentally, the Taiwanese giant TSMC is already building a chip factory in the USA, not in Texas, but in Arizona. And his investment is even higher – 12 billion dollars (approximately 257,6 billion crowns). However, it is to be put into operation only in 2024, i.e. one year later than Samsung.

The South Korean technology giant already has one factory in Austin, but it is only capable of producing chips using older processes. It needs a new plant for EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) lines. Currently, Samsung has two such lines - one at its main chip factory in the South Korean city of Hwasong, and the other is being built in Pyongyang.

Samsung has made no secret of the fact that it wants to be the biggest player in the field of chip production, but it expects to dethrone TSMC. At the end of last year, he announced that he intends to invest 116 billion dollars (roughly 2,5 trillion crowns) in his business with the production of "next-gen" chips over the next ten years.
