Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a not-so-well-known (but more important) division of Samsung, has published financial results for the past year. It follows from them that the daughter did particularly well in the last quarter. Specifically, it recorded $1,88 billion in sales (roughly CZK 40,5 billion) and an operating profit of $228 million (just under CZK 5 billion).

These numbers probably wouldn't tell us much without context, so let's just add that sales were up 17% year-over-year, while operating profit was up a massive 73%. For the whole year, Samsung Electro-Mechanics reports sales of $7,43 billion (approximately CZK 160 billion), which is 6% more year-on-year, and operating profit reached $750 million (approximately CZK 16 billion). CZK).

What was behind such extraordinary results of the division in the last three months of last year? Simple answer – 5G. The steady growth of the global 5G smartphone market has allowed the company to focus on many more high-end technologies for premium integrated circuits. Multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) were a particularly profitable business for it in the period in question.

Given that 5G was a key driver of the subsidiary's growth in the quarter, it's no surprise that it's not as fixated on selling its wireless division as it was two months ago.
