If you expect to have a new flagship phone from Samsung Galaxy S21 (goes on sale from Friday) update silently in the background while you attend to other tasks, we have some bad news for you. According to the YouTube channel This is Tech Today, the new series does not support Google's Seamless updates function.

Installing updates on smartphones of the series Galaxy S21 is therefore "postaru" - i.e. the user needs to restart the device and wait a few minutes for the installation to complete. This may seem like a very outdated method of installing updates today, which is why Google already in 2016 as part of Androidin 7.0 it came with a "smooth update" feature.

At the moment, it is unclear why Samsung does not support this feature on its new flagships. However, maybe it will be related to the internal memory. "Smooth updates" take up around 3GB due to the need to create a secondary partition on the storage, and Samsung may be reluctant to split that space, especially since the new line lacks a microSD card slot.

Google planned to implement the feature to Androidu 11 as the default for all smartphone manufacturers using its OS. However, in the document Android Compatibility Definition Document that lists the requirements that devices must meet to be compatible with the latest version Androidu, the function does not appear. Google allegedly did not include it in the document due to pressure from some manufacturers (Samsung was probably among them). On the contrary, companies such as LG, Motorola or OnePlus should have shown interest in it.
