Analytics company Sensor Tower published informace about the most downloaded non-gaming applications for this January. The messaging platform reigns supreme Telegram, which has seen more than 63 million unique downloads. This is almost four times more than a year ago.

The reason for the current popularity of Telegram, which was launched in 2013, is obvious - exactly one month old notification rival chat application WhatsApp that from February it will share users' personal data with other Facebook companies (after a lot of opposition from users, the social giant the validity of the new rules postponed by three months). The most downloads – over 15 million or 24% – came from India, with the second highest number of installs originating from Indonesia (6 million or 10,5%).

The second most downloaded app in the first month of the new year was the globally popular platform for creating and sharing short videos TikTok, which has amassed 62 million installs. Most of them – 10,5 million or 17% – came unsurprisingly from their home country of China (where the app is known as Douyin). The second highest number of downloads was "due" to users in the USA (over 6 million or 10%).

Rounding out the top ten most downloaded apps are Signal, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, ZOOM, MX TakaTak, Snapchat and Messenger. These are mostly communication platforms.
