At the end of January, the news broke that Samsung was the second largest tablet brand in the last quarter of last year and the entire year of 2020. Now the numbers for the EMEA region, which includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where the South Korean tech giant was the number one tablet, have come out.

Samsung was the largest tablet brand in the EMEA region in Q4 2020 with a market share of 28,1%, according to the latest data released by research firm IDC. It shipped over 4 million tablets to this market in the period under review, which is up 26,4% year-on-year.

Apple, which is the world's number one tablet, was second in the ranking. It delivered 3,5 million iPads to the market and captured a share of 24,6%, with year-on-year growth of 17,1%.

Lenovo ranked third with 2,6 million tablets delivered and a share of 18,3%, Huawei ranked fourth (1,1 million tablets, a share of 7,7%) and the top five largest tablet brands in the EMEA region are rounded out by Microsoft (0,4 .3,2 million tablets, a share of 152,8%). The largest year-on-year growth of all manufacturers – by XNUMX% – was reported by Lenovo, on the other hand, Huawei's deliveries fell significantly from year to year, by more than a fifth.

According to the IDC report, Samsung's strong position in the EMEA region stemmed mainly from its presence in digitization school projects in Central and Eastern Europe. The education sector has been one of the drivers of growth in tablet sales since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
