Samsung's memory business could soon enjoy a sudden boost in sales, thanks to the Playstation 5 console. It was released to the world last year with some missing features, and Sony confirmed at its launch that it will make the M.2 slot for storage expansion available with a future firmware update. According to Bloomberg, it will arrive in the summer. As a result, many PS5 owners are now thinking about getting an SSD drive from the South Korean tech giant.

The PS5 comes with a built-in 825GB SSD, which may seem like a lot at first glance, but for many users who want to play more than a few demanding "three-star" titles, it's not enough. Space problems are already being solved by fans of the popular Call of Duty FPS series (the new installment with the subtitle Black Ops Cold War takes up a hard-to-believable 250 GB), so the upcoming firmware update making the M.2 slot available will literally be a salvation for many players.

Sony has yet to specify which M.2 SSDs will be compatible with the PS5. So console owners shouldn't buy one just yet until the company reveals the details.

One ideal potential solution for PS5 users could be Samsung's popular M.2 SSD 980 Pro, which is faster than the PS5's built-in storage and launched a few months ago in a high-capacity 2TB version (still sold in with 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB).
