A representative of one of the largest manufacturers of telecommunications technologies, the Swedish company Ericsson, said at the MWC Shanghai that the number of 5G network users worldwide has already exceeded 200 million and that this number is expected to increase to 2026 billion by 3,5. He also shared other interesting numbers.

“As of January this year, there were 123 5G commercial networks and 335 5G commercial terminals in the world. The speed of 5G commercialization is also unprecedented. The total number of global 5G network users exceeded 200 million in just one year. This growth rate is incomparable to the beginnings of the popularization of 4G networks. It is estimated that by 2026, the number of 5G network users will reach 3,5 billion,” Penj Juanjiang, head of Ericsson's Northeast Asia Research Center, said at the 5G Evolution Summit held during MWC Shanghai.

In addition, Ericsson expects 5G to account for 2026% of all mobile data by 54, he said. He also stated that current global mobile data traffic amounts to roughly 51 exabytes (1 exabyte is 1024 petabytes, which is 1048576 terabytes). This number is estimated to rise to 2026 EB by 226, according to the telecom giant.

Not only according to Ericsson, this year will be as important for the expansion of 5G as last year. Like others, he predicts, among other things, that more affordable 5G smartphones from various manufacturers will appear on the market. In the case of Samsung, this has already happened - in February, the South Korean technology giant launched its cheapest phone to date with support for the latest network Galaxy A32 5G.
