Chinese tech giant Huawei's consumer division chief Richard Yu boasted that the company's mobile application distribution platform App Gallery had over half a billion monthly active users at the end of last year. The number of registered developers is said to have also seen a big increase - there were 2,3 million last year, or 77% more than in 2019.

App distribution (or downloads) also increased dramatically, up 83% to 384,4 billion, according to Yu. Games contributed the most to this (they had an increase of 500%), and hits like AFK Arena, Asphalt 9: Legends or Clash of Kings appeared on the platform last year.

Globally known applications such as HERE WeGo, Volt, LINE, Viber, Booking.com, Deezer or Qwant were also added to the platform last year.

Yu also said that while at the end of last year there were 25 countries in the world that had over a million App Gallery users, last year there were already 42. Strong growth is said to be seen across markets in Europe, South America, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region and also in the Middle East.

According to him, Huawei's vision is to make the App Gallery an open, innovative app distribution platform that is available to consumers worldwide (currently available in more than 170 countries).
