The highest model of Samsung's new flagship series Galaxy S21 - Galaxy S21Ultra – boasts many advanced technologies and one of them is a periscopic camera with 10x optical zoom. However, the South Korean technology giant is not keeping this technology to itself and has already started selling it to the first interested parties.

Samsung subsidiary Samsung Electro-Mechanics confirmed earlier this week that it has started shipping this photo module to the first customers. It did not name specific names, but it is said to be "global smartphone companies". Given that Samsung has previously collaborated with the Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi in the field of cameras (specifically, they jointly developed the 108 MPx ISOCELL Bright HMX photo sensors presented the year before and the 64 MPx ISOCELL GW1 sensor), it is suggested that one of the buyers of the module could be just him.

In addition, the company made it known that it intends to use the module and know-how it has in the mobile field in the automotive industry. This suggests that Samsung has ambitions to become a bigger supplier of optical sensors to automakers, although it's not entirely clear what practical use a 10x optical zoom sensor could have in the industry.
