As you know, Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of small OLED displays. These screens are used by most smartphone and smartwatch brands, including Apple. Now, news has hit the airwaves that Nintendo will use this very display in its next-generation Switch hybrid console.

According to Bloomberg, the next Nintendo console will be fitted with a seven-inch OLED panel with HD resolution produced by Samsung's Samsung Display division. Although the resolution of the newer screen is similar to the 6,2-inch LCD display of the current Switch, the OLED panel should offer much higher contrast, incomparably better black color rendering, wider viewing angles and, last but not least, better energy efficiency.

Samsung Display is said to begin mass-producing the new panels in June this year, and should initially produce a million of them per month. A month later, Nintendo should have them on the production lines for the new console.

The Japanese gaming giant may have to switch chip suppliers for its next console, as Nvidia is no longer focusing on consumer Tegra mobile chips. Last year, it was speculated that the next-generation Switch could be equipped with an Exynos chipset with an AMD graphics chip (it is not clear if this was the alleged Exynos 2200).
