Qualcomm, which is known in the world primarily as a manufacturer of mobile chipsets, has unveiled a new mobile platform for audio lovers. It is called Snapdragon Sound and includes a wide range of mobile hardware and software technologies from the American company.

The Snapdragon Sound brand will be able to be used by headphones, smartphones, smartwatches, computers and basically any audio product that can be powered by Qualcomm technologies. To obtain it, the devices will have to pass a series of interoperability tests in a specialized facility in Taiwan. Among other things, the devices will be tested for audio connectivity, latency or robustness.

Key components of the platform include a full range of Qualcomm's cutting-edge hardware and software, including Bluetooth chips and codecs, active noise cancellation (ANC) and super wideband voice functionality. More precisely, the Snapdragon 8xx series mobile chips, FastConnect 6900 wireless platform, ANC technology, aptX Voice Bluetooth codec, aptX Adaptive audio technology, Aqstic Hi-Fi DAC converter and the QCC514x, QCC515x and QCC3056 Bluetooth audio chip series have these technologies.

The first devices that will boast the Snapdragon Sound brand will be a currently unknown smartphone from Xiaomi and a product from the well-known headphone manufacturer Audio-Technica. They should arrive later this year.
