At the beginning of the week, we reported that LG announced its exit from the smartphone market. In an official statement, it has pledged to provide service support and software updates for a period of time. It has now clarified – support will cover premium models released after 2019 and mid-range models and some 2020 LG K-series phones.

Premium models, i.e. LG G8 series, LG V50, LG V60, LG Velvet and LG Wing trio of phones will receive three upgrades Androidu, while mid-range smartphones like the LG Stylo 6 and some LG K series models two system updates. The phones of the first group will thus reach up to Android 13, smartphones of the second group then on Android 12. It is not known at this time when LG will start releasing the updates. Anyway, from the South Korean tech giant, it's a commendable expression of gratitude to the customers who have supported it over the past few years.

LG, which was still the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world in 2013, decided to close its mobile division after a series of unsuccessful negotiations with those interested in buying it. According to unofficial reports, the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup was most interested, and negotiations were also to take place with representatives of Facebook and Volkswagen. The negotiations allegedly broke down over the high price that LG was supposed to ask for the division, and the problem was also its reluctance to sell the smartphone patents along with it.
