Global smartphone shipments decreased by 10% quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter of this year, but increased by 20% year-on-year. In total, almost 355 million smartphones were shipped to the market, with Samsung having the largest share with 22 percent. Marketing research company Counterpoint Research stated this in its new report.

It was second in the order with a share of 17% Apple, which in the previous quarter was the market leader at the expense of Samsung, followed by Xiaomi (14%) and Oppo (11%).

Counterpoint Research also writes in its report that Apple despite the quarter-on-quarter decline, it unflinchingly ruled the North American market – it held a share of 55%. It was followed by Samsung with 28 percent.

In Asia, Samsung had a Apple the same share – 12%, but the Chinese brands Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo ruled here.

However, Samsung was number one in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. In the first mentioned market, he "bite" a share of 37% (the second and third in order were Apple and Xiaomi with 24, respectively 19 percent), on the second 42% (the second and third were Motorola and Xiaomi with 22 and 8 percent, respectively) and on the third it had a share of 26%.

Counterpoint Research also published some interesting information about the market for push-button phones, where Samsung figures in the fourth position. Global shipments fell 15% quarter-on-quarter and 19% year-on-year. India remained the largest market for push-button phones with a share of 21%, while Samsung was second in order with a share of 19%.
