Samsung closed its in-house processor development department at the end of last year because Mongoose cores were lagging in performance compared to designs from ARM. Qualcomm stopped using proprietary cores many years ago. However, that may now change, at least according to a new report from South Korea.

According to a leaker who goes by the name Tron on Twitter, citing the South Korean website Clien, Samsung is trying to recruit former Apple and AMD engineers, one of whom was heavily involved in the development of the Cupertino tech giant's own chips. This unnamed engineer is said to demand that he have full control over his own team and be able to choose who he brings to that team.

Apparently, Samsung is not satisfied with the performance of the recently introduced processor core Cortex-X2 and looking for a more efficient solution. The South Korean technology giant is already working with Google to develop its own chipset and with AMD on integrating the RNDA2 graphics chip into the Exynos chipset.

Qualcomm, which bought Nuvia a few months ago, is expected to introduce its own processor designs soon. Nuvia was founded by former Apple engineers who were involved in the development of its M1, A14 and older chips. People who worked on Apple's chipsets seem to be a hot commodity in the tech world now.
