Samsung launched its first gaming Mini-LED monitor Odyssey Neo G9. Compared to its predecessor, the Odyssey G9 offers major image improvements.

The Odyssey Neo G9 is a 49-inch Mini-LED gaming monitor with a curved QLED screen, 5K resolution (5120 x 1440 px) and an ultra-wide 32:9 aspect ratio. The mini-LED display actually uses a VA panel and has 2048 local dimming zones for improved contrast ratio and black levels. Its typical brightness is 420 nits, but it can increase to 2000 nits in HDR scenes. The monitor is compatible with HDR10 and HDR10+ formats.

Another advantage of the monitor is the contrast ratio of 1000000:1, which is a really respectable value. Thanks to the Mini-LED backlight, it offers black levels like OLED monitors in dark scenes, but blooming may appear around bright objects. The monitor also boasts a 1ms gray-to-gray response time, a (variable) 240Hz refresh rate, adaptive sync and an automatic low-latency mode.

In terms of connectivity, the monitor has two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.0 ports and a combined headphone and microphone jack. It also got Infinity Core Lighting back lighting, which supports up to 52 colors and 5 lighting effects.

The Odyssey Neo G9 will go on sale globally on August 9 and will cost 2 won (roughly 400 crowns) in South Korea.
