Samsung announced financial results for the second quarter of this year. And despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, they are more than good - sales have increased by 20% year-on-year and operating profit by as much as 54%. The Korean tech giant's second-quarter profit was the highest in three years, thanks mainly to strong chip and memory sales.

Samsung's sales in the second quarter of this year reached 63,67 trillion won (roughly 1,2 billion crowns), and the operating profit was 12,57 billion. won (approximately 235,6 billion crowns). Even as smartphone sales faltered due to the global chip crisis and production disruptions at the smartphone giant's Vietnamese factories, its semiconductor chip division continued to grow profits.

The chip division specifically recorded an operating profit of 6,93 billion. won (just under CZK 130 billion), while the smartphone division contributed 3,24 trillion won (roughly CZK 60,6 billion) to the total profit. As for the display division, it achieved a profit of 1,28 billion. won (about CZK 23,6 billion), which was helped by rising panel prices.

Samsung said the key factors behind the higher profits were higher memory prices and increased demand for memory chips. The company expects demand for memory chips – driven by continued high interest in PCs, servers and data centers – to remain strong for the rest of the year.

In the future, Samsung expects to consolidate its leadership in the premium smartphone segment by mainstreaming flexible phones. His upcoming "puzzles" should also help with this Galaxy From Fold 3 and Flip 3, which should have a sleeker and more durable design and lower prices than their predecessors.
