Samsung introduced a sustainable platform called Galaxy for the Planet for mobile devices. The platform for direct action against climate change is based on a large production scale, constant innovation and a spirit of open cooperation. The company has already set specific initial goals until 2025 – their common denominator is reducing the carbon footprint and more efficient use of resources in the entire process from the production of equipment Galaxy until after their liquidation.

Galaxy for the Planet represents an important step towards creating a more sustainable world, and we are embarking on it with openness, transparency and a zest for collaboration, as in everything we do.” said Samsung Electronics president and director of mobile communications TM Roh.

Samsung officials believe that implementing sustainable steps into every phase of the manufacturing process is the best way to minimize the environmental impact of the company's activities and create a better future for people around the world and for the next generation of innovators. Samsung will strive to meet the initial goals by 2025, after which it would like to move to the next phase and new challenges.

  • 2025: Recycled materials in all new mobile products

To support the circular economy, Samsung is investing in new innovative ecological materials. By 2025, the company would like to use recyclable materials in all new mobile products. The composition of materials will be different for different products, manufacturers take into account the performance, aesthetics and durability of their devices.

  • 2025: No plastics in mobile device packaging

By 2025, Samsung should not use any single-use plastics in its product packaging. Its goal is to remove unnecessary materials from the packaging, which are traditionally used for packaging technology, and replace them with a more ecological solution.

  • 2025: Reduction of standby power for all smartphone chargers below 0,005 W

Samsung prefers energy-saving technologies that increase operational efficiency and reduce consumption. The company has already managed to reduce the standby consumption of all smartphone chargers to 0,02 W, which is one of the best figures in the industry. Now Samsung wants to follow up on this development - the ultimate goal is zero consumption in standby, in 2025 it plans to reduce it to below 0,005 W.

  • 2025: Zero landfill impact

Samsung is also minimizing the waste generated in its mobile device manufacturing plants – by 2025, the amount of waste going to landfill should drop to net zero. In addition, the company wants to work to reduce the amount of e-waste globally - it intends to optimize the life cycle of its products, improve production processes and continue to support initiatives such as Galaxy Upcycling, Certified Re-Newed or Trade-In.

Samsung will continue to explore new ways to confront the climate crisis and strengthen its own role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The company intends to transparently inform the public about its procedures and cooperate with other partners and players in the field on the way to sustainability.
