AMD, like some other technology companies without its own factory, has its chips manufactured by semiconductor giant TSMC. Now, a report has hit the airwaves suggesting that AMD could "anchor" Samsung with its future chips.

According to the website Guru3D, AMD is likely to move from TSMC to Samsung Foundries with its upcoming 3nm products. TSMC is said to have reserved the largest part of its 3nm production capacity to Apple, which forced AMD to look for alternatives, and the most competitive one is Samsung. The website adds that Qualcomm could also join Samsung with its 3nm chips.

Samsung, like TSMC, plans to start mass production of the 3nm node sometime next year. At the moment, it is too early to predict what products will be produced in its foundry, but one of them can be expected to be the successor to the upcoming Snapdragon 898 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1) chipset and future Ryzen processors along with Radeon graphics cards.

Recall that TSMC is the clear number one in the global semiconductor market - its share in the summer was 56%, while Samsung's share was only 18%. Even with such a large distance, however, the second place belongs to the Korean technology giant.
