Qualcomm launched its latest flagship chipset a few days ago Snapdragon 8 Gen1, which is manufactured by Samsung's 4nm process. However, now it seems that all is not quite right between Qualcomm and Samsung and that there could be some changes regarding the production of the new chip.

According to digitimes.com, Qualcomm is not satisfied with the yield of the Samsung Foundry's 4nm production process. If production problems persist, the company is said to be able to shift some production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Samsung to its main competitor TSMC.

According to some experts, the Taiwanese semiconductor giant's manufacturing processes are superior to Samsung's in terms of size and energy efficiency. If Qualcomm decided to have some Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips manufactured using Samsung's process and others using TSMC's process, there could be a difference in performance and consumption between the two.

Samsung's next flagship chip is also to be manufactured using the 4nm process Exynos 2200, and if they are informace website correct, line Galaxy S22 could face chip shortage issues. In addition, losing part of a chip-making contract with a major client like Qualcomm could hurt Samsung's semiconductor business and disrupt its plans to "tear out" TSMC by 2030.
