According to the British financial institution Capital on Tap, Samsung Electronics is one of the most innovative technology companies this year in terms of the number of patents applied for. Like last year, it ranked second behind Huawei. However, if its patents are combined with those of the Samsung Display division, the company as a whole has surpassed the Chinese giant this year with 13 patents.
Samsung Electronics secured 9499 patents and Samsung Display 3524 patents this year, while Huawei claimed 9739 patent applications. Samsung Electronics is by far the most innovative company overall – at least judging by the number of technology patents from this year combined with previous years. It now has a total of 263 patents on its account (with the Samsung Display patents, it is roughly 702), while Huawei "only" has a little over 290.
Over the past 10 years, Samsung Electronics has been among the top 5 technology innovators in several fields, including virtual and augmented reality, technologies related to XNUMXG networks, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and autonomous driving.
