Samsung has unveiled sustainability initiatives for 2022 that will accelerate the development of eco-friendly home appliances. The Korean technology giant thus fights against environmental pollution with the help of innovative products and services that can be used in everyday life.

As part of activities announced at CES 2022, Samsung has partnered with American clothing company Patagonia. This collaboration will promote environmental sustainability by addressing the issue of microplastics and their impact on the oceans. During Samsung's CES 2022 keynote, Patagonia product director Vincent Stanley shared his thoughts on the significance of the collaboration and where it will go, calling it an example of how companies can "help reverse climate change and restore the health of nature ".

Patagonia is well known for its efforts to use innovative materials that do less damage to the planet. Patagonia helps Samsung in a number of ways, including testing products, sharing its research and facilitating involvement in the NGO Ocean Wise's programs. Samsung is researching means to help reverse the negative effects of microplastics.

The Bespoke Water Purifier, which recently received an NSF International certificate in the USA for its ability to filter particles as small as 0,5 to 1 micrometer, including microplastics, also helps solve problems associated with environmental pollution. Samsung thus became one of the first manufacturers of water purifiers to receive this certification.

To promote better energy use and sustainable lifestyles, Samsung has partnered with Q CELLS to create a new Zero Energy Home Integration feature for its SmartThings Energy service. This feature provides data on energy production from solar panels and storage in energy storage systems, helping users achieve as much energy self-sufficiency as possible.

SmartThings Energy monitors the consumption of connected devices in the home and recommends energy-saving methods based on their usage patterns. Through partnerships with Wattbuy in the US and Uswitch in the UK, SmartThings Energy helps users switch to the best energy supplier in their region.

Samsung will also increase the amount of recycled plastic it uses in its home appliances. To fulfill this commitment, it will use recycled plastic not only for the interior, but also for the exterior of its products.

Samsung aims to increase the proportion of recycled plastic in home appliances from 5 percent in 2021 to 30 percent in 2024, an increase from 25 tons of recycled plastic in 000 to 2021 tons in 158.

In addition, Samsung has also developed a new type of polypropylene recycled plastic for the tubs of its washing machines. Using waste polypropylene and polyethylene from items such as used food boxes and face mask tape, he created a new type of recycled synthetic resin that is more resistant to external impacts.

The company will also expand the use of eco-friendly packaging for more product types, including home appliances such as vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, air purifiers and more. Customers will thus be able to reuse the boxes in which these products were delivered.

The implementation of this plan began in 2021 in Korea and will continue this year in global markets.
