When Galaxy Last year's Flip 3 was a slight improvement on the previous generation. However, we would like a more drastic evolution from this year's one. Folding phones are still in their infancy and have a lot of room for improvement.

It is expected that Samsung will release a new series of its folding smartphones in 2022, i.e. excluding the Z Fold and the flip-up "clamshell" Z Flip, also considering its good sales. But we'd like to see some design evolution that includes a few hardware upgrades. However, if the manufacturer really wants to massively expand its Z Flip line, so that it can be said to be a global success, it needs to lower the price a bit.

Crease removal

People who see or use the Z Flip 3 for the first time usually have one major concern among all the positivity and some excitement about the novel design, which is of course the horizontal crease in the center of the display. While it's not an issue that you'll get used to quickly, just like you get used to the iPhone's front-facing camera cutout, it's about time Samsung ditched this imperfection.

Enlargement of the external display

Even though the external display of the Z Flip3 has increased compared to its predecessor, it is still quite small and, above all, not fully used. As we have seen, it can be used to fully control the device. We don't want to write text messages on it, but quick reactions and other small things could definitely be done through it, and that too without the user friendliness suffering. But there are also disadvantages of such a solution - susceptibility to damage and greater demands on the battery.

Camera improvements

It is quite difficult to implement high-quality photographic technology in such a small body. The Z Flipu3 cameras are by no means bad. Samsung has completely redesigned the scene detection algorithm based on artificial intelligence and with it came significantly better photos. This is especially true in the case of movement, because it is photographed continuously, both before and after pressing the shutter button. A background processing algorithm then analyzes all of these photos, picks out the ones with the least amount of blur, and then blends them all together to create one super awesome photo.

But it would require at least a telephoto lens and raise the resolution, because 12 MPx may seem a bit low to many (even though Apple it has been using this resolution since the iPhone 6S, which it introduced in 2015). But better optics also brings with it the trend of modern times in the form of protruding lenses, and the question is whether we want something like that in such a fashionable device.

More energy

Just as it is difficult to improve the optics, it will be difficult for Samsung to raise the endurance of the device. She is not at all stunning. The present 3300mAh battery is not enough for many even for their entire demanding day. In addition, only 15W charging and 10W wireless charging are present, so these are definitely not high values. Of course, there would be a lot of software tuning here, but to a certain extent, a larger external display would also prevent a larger discharge, which would make it unnecessary to open the device every time.

Lower price

Samsung is bragging about how the Z Flip3 is going great. To a certain extent, this is not only due to little competition, but also, of course, to the unusual design itself. But for real global success, it needs to lower the price a little more. This is not the top of the portfolio, demanding users will not buy such a phone. However, if we could look for a direct competitor, it would of course be the one from the Apple stable, that is to say specifically iPhone 13.

In its standard version, it starts in Apple Online Store for 22 CZK. In contrast, you can buy the Z Flip990 on Samsung's official website from CZK 3. However, Samsung already showed us last year that it can make it cheaper. And if he were able to do so even now, at such a price that would attack the current series of basic iPhones, it could also force some Apple fans, who have not yet been completely caught in the Apple ecosystem, to switch to a more interesting and overcooked solution.
