Galaxy The Z Flip3 is by far the most successful foldable phone on the market, whether it's a Samsung or a third-party solution. It was only a matter of time before other OEMs started using this design sense and tried to build on its success. The Motorola Razr has been here for a long time, and now Huawei is also trying it, which has already launched the P50 Pocket model on the Czech market.

Huawei introduced its P50 Pocket foldable device in December. Apart from the Czech Republic, the model went up for pre-order this week in the rest of Europe and several other regions, including Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. So should Samsung be worried about Huawei's latest foldable phone? And it makes sense to buy it instead Galaxy From Flip3?

The shortest possible answer to both questions is clearly "ne". You might argue that these types of decisions often boil down to subjective preferences, and in most other cases you'd be right. However, the truth is that however you look at the Huawei P50 Pocket, it's objectively a poor alternative Galaxy From Flip3. Yes, it has some good features like a higher resolution camera and more built-in storage, but it lacks too many other specs to be considered a worthy competitor Galaxy From the Flip 3. And then there's that exorbitant price tag.

The main differences are in the camera

The external display is very small and its circular shape robs the user of the possibility of interaction. Not to mention, while its placement is design-friendly, you'll almost always leave fingerprints on the camera lens whenever you try to use it with one hand. So it is not a practical choice for this type of device.

Compared to the model Galaxy From the Flip3, the Huawei phone has a higher camera resolution, adding one more. Specifically, it is a 40MPx True-Chroma, 32MPx ultra-spectral and 13MPx ultra-wide-angle camera. The Z Flip3 only has a 12MPx wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle camera. Its basic storage starts at 128 GB, the Huawei solution at 256 GB. Samsung's solution still loses in charging speeds, which is 15W wired or 10W wireless, the P50 Pocket has 40W wired charging, but the manufacturer does not specify the specifics of wireless charging.

It's about a price that is clear

The Huawei P50 Pocket does not have UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass), which means its foldable display is more prone to scratches. It doesn't even have stereo speakers or water resistance and without built-in Google services you will have trouble launching your favorite apps. And while it has a Snapdragon 888 chipset (like the Z Flip3), it lacks 5G connectivity. In short, they try to dazzle users too much, especially with a higher resolution camera and faster charging, but in practice these so-called improvements do not even try to justify the meaningless price of the result.

On the official website Huawei.cz you can pre-order the P50 Pocket in white for CZK 34. If you do so by February 990, you will get FreeBuds Lipstick headphones and a free 7-year extended warranty, plus the option to buy a protective case for CZK 1. On the official website Samsung however, the Z Flip3 costs CZK 26. You will receive headphones for it by the end of January Galaxy Buds Live, case for a crown and an additional 50% off accessories.

Huawei's effort is certainly appreciated. Not only in that respect to bring your own solution. Design-wise, the P50 Pocket is a nice phone. Even all the compromises, including the lack of Google services, could be overcome if the manufacturer had not set such an exorbitant price. With Samsung, we simply see that it is also considerably cheaper, which is why Huawei does not have too many trumps that would play in its favor.
