The global smartphone market shipped a total of 1,35 billion devices last year, representing 7% year-on-year growth and close to the pre-Covid 2019 level, when manufacturers shipped 1,37 billion smartphones. The first place was once again defended by Samsung, which shipped 274,5 million smartphones and whose market share reached (as in the previous year) 20%. This was reported by the analytical company Canalys.

It finished in second place with 230 million smartphones shipped and a market share of 17% Apple (recorded 11% year-on-year growth), in third place was Xiaomi, which delivered 191,2 million smartphones to the market and now holds a share of 14% (year-on-year growth of a high 28%).

The first "non-medal" rank was occupied by 145,1 million smartphones delivered and a share of 11% by Oppo (it showed year-on-year growth of 22%). The top five largest "telephone" players is rounded off by another Chinese company, Vivo, which shipped 129,9 million smartphones and now has a share of 10% (15% year-on-year growth).

According to Canalys analysts, the key growth drivers were budget segments in the Asia-Pacific region, Africa, South America and the Middle East. Demand was also strong for high-end devices from Samsung and Apple, with the former meeting its goal of selling 8 million "jigsaws" and the latter recording the strongest fourth quarter of any brand with 82,7 million shipments. Canalys predicts that the solid growth of the smartphone market will continue this year as well.
