Netflix's long-standing relationship with Widevine DRM means that only a few "certified" smartphones can stream the platform's high-definition content, i.e. 720p and above. Now we have confirmation here that machines equipped with the Exynos 2200 chipset will also be included in this type of device. But not those with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Magazine Android Police came across a footnote present on Netflix's website about compatible chipsets. The list includes big names like Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8xx series, several MediaTek SoCs, and even a few HiSilicon and UNISOC chipsets. There are also Samsung chipsets, including the controversial Exynos 990, the slightly more reliable Exynos 2100, and now also the Exynos 2200.

Most interestingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which has been around for quite some time, is missing from the list. On the other hand, most of the devices equipped with this chip have not yet reached the market outside of China. And since Netflix is not officially available in China, it doesn't have to bother anyone that much. Well, at least for now, because with the arrival of the series Galaxy In S22, the situation changes. At least on the American continent, this top line of Samsung will be distributed with the Qualcomm solution.

We can rest easy, we will get the Exynos 2200 and we will be able to stream Netflix content without restrictions. But of course, it can be assumed that Netflix will soon add support for Qualcomm's flagship chip. Complete list of supported Android devices and chipsets on the Netflix support pages.
