Samsung delivered the most smartphones to the market last year and thus maintained the position of the biggest player in this field. Now it has come to light that he has also prospered in another important branch of his business. These are semiconductors.

According to the analytical company Counterpoint, last year Samsung's semiconductor business took in 81,3 billion dollars (just under 1,8 trillion crowns), which represents a year-on-year increase of 30,5%. The main driver of growth was sales of DRAM memory chips and logic integrated circuits, which are found in almost every piece of electronics. In addition, Samsung also produces mobile chips, chips for the Internet of Things, low-energy chips and others.

Last year, Samsung surpassed big names such as Intel, SK Hynix and Micron in this segment, which generated $79 billion (roughly CZK 1,7 trillion), respectively. 37,1 billion dollars (approximately 811 billion crowns), or 30 billion dollars (about 656 billion CZK). The Korean giant will make even more money from this business this year due to a growing shortage of DRAM memories caused by the closure of its factories in the Chinese city of Xi'an.

Counterpoint predicts that supply constraints due to the ongoing chip crisis will continue until the middle of this year, but others say it will last much longer. Samsung says it has a fallback plan to work around the flaw. The availability of the series should give us a rough idea of the effectiveness of this plan Galaxy S22.
