The globally popular YouTube video platform has published on its blog what news we can expect from it this year. One of them will be a function called Shopping.

The Shopping feature will allow platform users to purchase products directly from their favorite channels (probably via live shopping videos and videos made specifically for shopping). YouTube is also currently testing a gift membership feature on some channels, which will allow live streamers to purchase a channel membership for another viewer.

As the video platform wants its creators to "always be able to achieve their most ambitious creative goals", it will offer more monetization options for its Shorts, Live and VOD (video on demand) formats in the coming months. For the former, the creator will provide new options for creating branded content within the BrandConnect platform, introduce fan-funded features and also allow users to directly purchase products from these short videos. In addition, this format will receive new video effects, editing tools and other features to make it even more attractive for creators.

To encourage creators to create even more interesting content, YouTube will offer them the option to "go live together" and will also add "new insights" to YouTube Studio (using data from Google's search engine) to tell creators what the most "trending" at the moment.

The platform has previously acknowledged that its viewers are increasingly watching YouTube videos on their TVs. So it wants to allow users to use their phones while watching videos on their TVs to read and write comments and share videos. It is currently unknown when exactly this and the aforementioned features will be officially introduced this year.
