It is common knowledge that Apple is one of the largest customers of the display division of the South Korean company Samsung Display. Its products are found in many high-end iPhonech and some iPads. Now it looks like Samsung Display is developing an entirely new type of OLED panels for the Cupertino tech giant.

According to information from the Korean website The Elec, Samsung Display is working on new OLED panels with a two-layer tandem structure, where the panel has two emission layers. Compared to the traditional single-layer structure, such a panel has two fundamental advantages – it enables almost twice as much brightness and has a roughly four times longer service life.

The new OLED panels are expected to find their place in future iPads, iMacs and MacBooks, specifically those due to arrive in 2024 or 2025. The website also mentions their use in the automotive industry, suggesting that they could be used by autonomous vehicles. Series production of the new panels, which are said to bear the T designation, is to begin next year. It is also worth noting that one of these panels should be the first to be used by Samsung's largest division Samsung Electronics, which means that a future smartphone of the series could have it Galaxy S or tablet series Galaxy Tab S.
