Russian users of devices that include Google Play will no longer have access to the store's paid services. Google suspends the possibility to make any purchases not only in the case of new apps and games, but also when signing up for a subscription or making one-time In-App purchases. The reason is, of course, the recent sanctions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As he stated in his Twitter account Mishaal Rahman, Google told developers that these restrictions would be implemented "in the coming days." The company says it's due to a "disruption of the payment system," which likely refers to the US government's financial sector sanctions (among others) that have been imposed on Russia in recent days. Another factor making payment processing difficult for international companies is likely to be the suspension of Visa and Mastercardv Russia.

Free apps on Google Play will still be available for Russian users to download, as well as any titles they've already purchased, deleted and would like to reinstall. Infamously for the Russians, the YouTube platform has also suspended monetization functions in the country, including YouTube Premium. However, Russian users can still create and publish content and earn money from viewers outside of Russia. How long these restrictions will be in place is of course unknown.
