As you may have noticed, microSD card slots are rather uncommon in new smartphones these days. This applies mainly to flagships, including those from Samsung. Of course, it is possible to buy a variant with a higher internal memory capacity, but it will be more expensive. Today, smartphone manufacturers force us to use cloud services to store photos or videos, which may seem like a solution, but on the other hand, you can't install apps in the cloud.

So if you want to install a new app and you don't have space for it, you need to free up some on your phone. And if you're a user who frequently installs new apps and is constantly running out of space, your struggle may soon be over. Google is working on a feature that has the potential to solve the problem of lack of storage space, at least partially.

Google said on its blog that it is working on a feature called App Archiving. It works by archiving unused or unwanted applications that the user currently has on their phone. The tool does not delete these applications, it only "packs" them into androidfile package called Archived APK. When the user decides he needs these apps again, his smartphone simply restores them with all his data in them. The tech giant promises that the feature will be able to free up to 60% of storage space for apps.

Currently, the feature is only available to developers. The good news, however, is that the average user won't have to wait long for it, as Google will make it available later this year. Are you one of those users who constantly struggle with the lack of space on their phone? What do you think is the ideal size of the smartphone's internal memory and can you do without a microSD card slot? Let us know in the comments.
