Nothing is known for its Ear (1) TWS headphones and that it was founded by Nothing Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus. Nothing has now held an online event where it announced what everyone was waiting for, i.e. its first smartphone, the Phone 1. However, there is still the same aura of mystery around it, as it is around the whole brand.

After the Ear 1 headphones, the Nothing Phone 1 will be the second device the company will sell. But for now, all we know is that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon chip and that it will be "defined by an iconic design." So we expect a similar transparent approach to product design as we saw with the Ear 1. Except for the superstructure preview Androidbut that's actually all we know about the phone.

A new ecosystem

Carl Pei also talked about the fact that Nothing had to fight a large conglomerate that wanted to prevent it from entering the smartphone market (presumably OnePlus and BBK Electronics). However, the company managed to find other partners, and these include Google, Qualcomm, BYD, Sony, Visionox and even Samsung.

The company has quite big ambitions and is not afraid to compare its upcoming novelty to the first iPhone. It was also mentioned that the company is creating the most compelling alternative to Apple's ecosystem. Its devices work best together, but consumers have no real alternative to it. According to Peia, the Nothing ecosystem will be the answer to this very fact. It should be open and cooperate with other leading global brands. According to him, it is the beginning of an ecosystem of products that no one else offers except Apple. To underline this even more, he mentioned the possibilities of integration and connection with headphones Apple AirPods and Tesla cars.

NothingOS

Phone 1 will run Nothing OS, which is a system skin Android, which will allow easy connection and integration of Nothing products and products of other leading global brands. Like OnePlus' original approach to OxygenOS, Nothing OS is meant to consist of only the best "pure" features Androidua "hardware seamlessly integrates with software through custom fonts, colors, graphics and sounds." Whether that's just marketing talk remains to be seen.

Instead of custom apps, there's a collection of standard Google apps, a practice many other manufacturers have long since switched to. The operating system thus focuses on minimizing any user distraction, so it uses fewer animations and introduces more focus-oriented features. Three years of operating system updates are promised, four years for security. It's not as great as Samsung's, which offers a year more, but of course it could be worse.

Interestingly, the Nothing launcher will be available for selected smartphones from April. So we can assess how the new operating system will look quite soon. The phone itself, the form of which we did not learn, is to be presented only in the summer. And just because it's about to be introduced doesn't mean it'll also go on sale.
