Samsung really has a lot going for it. They are trying to supply the market with a sufficient number of phones of the series Galaxy S22, fixes numerous software issues of its new flagships, and in addition brings One UI 4.1 to older devices. And it is precisely in it that the controversial fix for limiting game performance is hidden.

The One UI 4.1 update has been arriving in an increasing number of devices in recent days, and even if their owners can look forward to interesting new features, the most fundamental one may be the solution to the choking of game performance. The Game Optimization Service (GOS) is integrated into the Game Booster application, which is pre-installed on most devices Galaxy, and which limits CPU and GPU usage while playing games to balance the ideal device temperature and battery life.

However, this became the subject of controversy when it was revealed that benchmark applications they aren't throttled in this way like other games, leading to unclear conclusions about how much performance the device actually delivers to games. Everything would be fine if the user had the option to somehow turn this off, which he didn't have, and Samsung had to react that way.

Alternative game performance management

He therefore released an update to the series Galaxy S22, which corrects this throttling behavior while still ensuring that device temperatures don't get out of control. The update also introduced an alternative game performance management setting in Game Booster that allows users to completely turn off temperature management through the GOS system to get the best possible performance out of games.

As mentioned, Samsung has integrated this fix directly into the One UI 4.1 update for those devices that have it available (with Galaxy S21 FE we can confirm this). Those who have devices Galaxy with One UI 4.1, they should experience better gaming performance by default, and technically should see even better frame rates if they enable the alternative performance management settings found in the Game Booster menu and the Labs tab. Additionally, third-party apps will now be able to automatically prevent GOS from throttling them, although it remains to be seen how much developers will want to take advantage of this.
