Despite all the difficulties in the market and the rising prices of smartphones, the segment of premium devices grew actively last year. Specifically, compared to 2020, it was 24%. As further reported by the analytical company Counterpoint Research, this segment grew more actively than others, by 7%. High-end smartphones set a new record for themselves: they accounted for 27% of global sales. This means that every fourth smartphone sold in 2021 was premium.

According to Counterpoint analysts, the increased demand for 5G phones in developed economies is behind such a significant growth of the premium smartphone segment. Companies like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Apple they grew particularly actively in China and Western Europe and dominated the micro-segment previously dominated by the former smartphone giant Huawei.

In terms of individual companies, the premium smartphone segment ruled the roost last year Apple, whose share was 60%. It owes its success to good sales of the series iPhone 12 to iPhone 13. Counterpoint notes in this context that record sales in the last quarter of last year in China contributed significantly to this result.
