At the end of last year, there was speculation that Samsung wanted to ask LG to supply more OLED panels. Even if like this informace it might sound absurd (Samsung and LG are the biggest competitors in the field of OLED displays), in fact it made sense, as it related to TVs, where Samsung has not been a fan of OLED panels for a long time (it is betting on QLED technology instead). Now a report has appeared in South Korea that confirms the former.

According to the Korea Herald website, Samsung and LG are already close to an agreement on the supply of OLED panels, and the contract should be at least three years. The panels will very likely end up in the range of OLED TVs that Samsung is preparing for this year.

The main reason Samsung has decided to turn to its big rival is believed to be the fact that OLED TVs are experiencing great growth again (they currently account for around 40% of global premium TV sales), and Samsung would like to take some of this new growth " took a bite". In the meantime, LG has become the dominant player in this market. Samsung Display's display division makes many OLED panels, but few end up in its smart TVs. Most of them are used by the Korean giant in smartphones, tablets and laptops.
