Expert RAW is one of the best apps released by Samsung for smartphones in recent years Galaxy. It combines series cameras Galaxy S22 and phone S21Ultra with capabilities similar to those offered by digital SLR cameras. Now Samsung has shared the story of its creation through Hamid Sheikh of Samsung Research America MPI Lab and Girish Kulkarni of Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore.

The new mobile photo app is the result of a collaboration between various Samsung departments united by the same goal of giving photography enthusiasts and professionals more creative control over their photos. Samsung's default photo app relies on sophisticated computational photography algorithms that allow it to produce often fantastic results, but the downside is that users have limited control over their images.

Sheikh and Kulkarni in an interview for the website Samsung Newsroom explain how Expert RAW combines the same ease-of-use offered by Samsung's default photo app with DSLR-like features. Expert RAW is a mobile photography application that gives the user more creative control over their images. The application takes photos with more complex data, and its integration with the Adobe Lightroom application allows the phone to be turned into a mini-studio for professional photographers. The app also last year allowed users to Galaxy S21 Ultra to change the shutter speed, sensitivity and other settings, which was not in Pro mode in Samsung's main camera application until the arrival of the series Galaxy S22 possible.

The idea behind the creation of the application was to please digital SLR users who were looking for a similar experience on mobile phones. Expert RAW was thus inspired by the community of experts and photography enthusiasts. The creation of the application is the result of close cooperation between Samsung Research America MPI Lab and Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore. The first mentioned institution made available its expertise in the field of computational imaging, the second then used its skills and resources to develop the necessary software or user interface of the application.

According to Sheikh and Kulkarni, due to the time difference between the US and India, the app was worked on practically 24 hours a day and was said to be completed in record time. Both representatives of their institutions added that "in the future, we would like to continue to improve the app with a focus on creating a new ecosystem for professional photography that takes full advantage of the capabilities of professional cameras".
