Software of any kind can contain unintended vulnerabilities and bugs, and this is no exception Android. It is the most widely used mobile operating system in the world Android a prime target for hackers looking for ways to exploit these vulnerabilities to gain access to user data. To prevent this, Google patches newly found vulnerabilities in Androidu through monthly patches that various smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, release to their phones (or tablets) with security updates.

Samsung produces the most androidof smartphones and releases security updates for many of them every month. In addition to fixing the vulnerabilities found in Androidu these updates also address vulnerabilities that affect Samsung's own version running on all its smartphones and tablets. However, issuing monthly updates for every device in its range is almost impossible, so the Korean giant releases new security updates for some of them once every quarter.

Flagships usually get monthly updates and mid-range and low-end devices get quarterly updates, but it's not set in stone. Some devices may receive monthly updates for the first year or two after launch and then be moved to a quarterly update plan, while others may be on a quarterly plan from the time they go on sale.

Some smartphones and tablets, especially those that went on sale more than three years ago, receive security updates only twice a year. In some cases, when a critical vulnerability is discovered or an old vulnerability is fixed, Samsung may release an update for any device.

But how do you know how often your smartphone or tablet receives security updates? Here is a list of all devices for which Samsung currently provides monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual security updates.
