Press Release: Eaton, the intelligent power management company and market leader in large data center solutions, has announced that it is building a new campus for its mission-critical power systems in Vantaa, Finland. With this step, it integrates all its current activities into a much larger location, as the 16 m² area, which is to be completed by the end of 500, will house research and development, production, storage, sales and service under one roof, and will create up to 2023 more jobs.

As one of the world's largest manufacturers of three-phase uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), Eaton's expansion in this area is driven by strong business growth and demand for systems that ensure business continuity, whether in data centers, commercial and industrial buildings, or healthcare and navy. The Vantaa facility is in a prime location next to Helsinki Airport and will serve as the headquarters for Eaton's Critical Power Solutions division as well as a center of excellence for data centers.

Eaton has a strong knowledge base in Finland, as its local subsidiary with 250 employees has been developing and manufacturing UPS and power conversion technology since 1962. The decision to expand was prompted by growing demand for the output of Eaton's existing factory in Espoo, including network-interactive UPS and systems energy storage that will support the energy transition away from fossil fuels.

The new facility will also include a state-of-the-art test area that not only supports product development and operation, but also showcases Eaton products in action. This translates into a best-in-class experience for customers in terms of tours, face-to-face meetings and factory acceptance tests, which will also require hiring new talent. New jobs will be created in operations, research and development, but also in commercial and technical support.

Eaton is dedicated to improving sustainability and energy efficiency – both in terms of its processes and the products it manufactures – and this project is no exception. The existing site in Espoo has been sending zero waste to landfill since 2015, and the new building will house various innovative Eaton technologies to reduce the carbon footprint, from energy management solutions to electric vehicle chargers.

Karina Rigby, President of Critical Systems, Electrical Sector at Eaton in EMEA, said: “By investing in and strengthening our footprint in Finland, we are building on Eaton's strong local heritage while delivering on our commitment to sustainability. Eaton's power quality business is growing through digitization and the energy transition, and with the new Vantaa campus we will be ready to support our customers now and in the future. It is particularly exciting to see how UPS technology has evolved over time – today it not only provides business continuity for critical applications, but also plays a role in the transition to renewables by acting as a source of flexibility that supports grid stability.”
