According to a recent analysis of APK files by 9to5Google, Google intends to replace passwords with so-called universal keys. This means that users would no longer need to enter passwords on their phones to log in to web services.

It will be enough to use the available authentication methods, such as access code, fingerprint, etc., and the user's smartphone will automatically log in to the given web service. This information was revealed by the website after it discovered phrases like "Hello passkeys, goodbye passwords" in the code strings of the latest version of the Google Play Services application.

This new feature should be called passkeys. Its main purpose is to eliminate the need to enter a password to access Internet services. Instead of passwords, universal keys with FIDO (Fast Identity Online) technology use cryptographic keys that will be securely stored on the user's device and in the Google account. However, users will still need to remember their Google Account password. In addition to Google, the FIDO Alliance that developed this technology includes Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Intel and other important (and not only) technology companies.
