Google revealed the official codename for Android 14. It internally refers to its 2023 version of the operating system as "Upside Down Cake". Every year, the company releases its latest major version of the system Android a fun code name for some dessert, in alphabetical order. Previously, these code names were also the official names of individual versions of the system Android, including the memorable KitKat and Oreo.

As expected, things got a little messy on arrival Androidat 10, which should have started with the letter Q, and in which Google finally decided on Queen's Cake. Since then, however, the names of the public versions Androidchanged u to a simple number only. As for the dessert name selections, Google remained only internal. For example Android 12 is known as "Snow Cone" while the upcoming release Androidat 13 it is referred to as "Tiramisu".

In the new code published in the project Android However, the Open Source Project revealed that Google's internal codename for Android 14 which we should expect in 2023 and which should be Android U, is "Upside Down Cake". In code, it is styled as one single word UpsideDownCake.

If you haven't had the pleasure of trying an "upside down cake", this is one where the decorations are placed on the bottom of the pan and the batter is poured on top of them. The cake is then baked and finally flipped over – so it's really upside down. Considering that there really aren't too many desserts starting with the letter U, this designation is certainly interesting. The question is whether it does not also indicate certain changes.

Turning something upside down usually means a lot of news, so it is quite possible that this sign is not just the one chosen from the list, but may also have a hidden meaning. It is true that there is a system Android it's been pretty much the same for a long time, so we certainly wouldn't be angry at Google for some drastic news.
