Press Release: Rakuten Viber, the global leader in private and secure management and voice communications, announces the launch of its newest feature, two-step verification. This additional level of security allows users to verify their accounts using a PIN code and email. This feature will be gradually rolled out to other countries during May.

Viber's commitment to providing a secure, privacy-first communications platform is reflected in the constant work on new features. Viber messages are now end-to-end encrypted, eliminating third-party access to data, and the disappearing messages feature gives users additional control over who sees their messages. The latest two-step verification feature is another example of Viber's unwavering commitment to privacy, giving users the confidence they need when communicating within Viber.

Users who choose to activate the two-step verification feature will create a six-digit PIN and verify their email address. If a user wants to sign in to Viber on a mobile device or computer, they will need to verify the account by entering an individual PIN code. If the code is forgotten, the verified email address will be used to help the user regain access to their account.

In addition, if you have a PIN code, you will not be able to deactivate your account using the Viber application on your computer. Anyone trying to deactivate a Viber account via a computer will need to use a PIN code.

Viber's new feature allows users to implement additional security measures to ensure the privacy of their accounts. Two-step verification protects against hackers who take over user accounts to send spam or gain access to private information. Reducing the number of unverified accounts within the platform will not only reduce the number of unwanted messages in the platform, but also create a more efficient and stable application for users to communicate with loved ones around the world. Additionally, Viber is working on adding biometric authentication in the future.

"Protecting the privacy of Viber users is at the forefront of everything we do. We are committed to providing a secure end-to-end encrypted messaging app and this new feature takes us one step further.” says Amir Ish-Shalom, the company's chief information officer Rakuten Viber. "Two-step verification will ease our users' security concerns and reassure not only users but also businesses that Viber provides the latest technology to keep the platform secure."

Viber's two-step verification feature is launching in select locations in Europe before rolling out globally.
