Samsung launched version 4.0 of its UFS (Universal Storage Standard) storage, which is used by many smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. The Korean tech giant promises that the new standard will bring "huge" improvements in speed and efficiency over the existing UFS 3.1. It should enter mass production in the third quarter of this year.

The mentioned date suggests that either the upcoming flexible phones could be the first to receive UFS 4.0 Galaxy From Fold4 a From Flip4 or Samsung's next flagship series Galaxy S23. Of course, in the end it may be different and the mentioned devices may still have the "old" UFS 3.1. Either way, it looks like it androidthese devices will be significantly faster very soon.

According to Samsung, UFS 4.0 offers a throughput of up to 23,2 GB/s per line, which is double that of UFS 3.1, making the new storage "ideal for 5G smartphones that require massive amounts of data processing." The new 7th generation V-NAND technology is supposed to enable sequential read speeds of up to 4200 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 2800 MB, which are also significantly higher numbers than what UFS 3.1 can offer.

According to Samsung, it has also improved efficiency so that mobile devices with UFS 4.0 can last longer while offering faster read and write speeds and higher throughput. In this area, the new standard should be 46% better than the existing one. Speaking of numbers, UFS 4.0 offers a sequential read of 6 MB per unit of mA, or milliamp. UFS 4.0 will be available in capacities up to 1TB, predisposing them to be used in Samsung flagships Galaxy, which come in multiple storage configurations. Samsung will also work with other manufacturers to make the new standard available in, for example, the automotive industry or the fields of augmented and virtual reality.
