In 2016, Google introduced YouTube Go, a lightweight app androidapp designed for slower hardware and limited mobile connectivity. However, the American tech giant has now announced that YouTube Go will end this August.

The replacement for YouTube Go is unsurprisingly "full-featured" androidYouTube app. In this context, Google noted that it has made various optimizations in recent years. Specifically, on its support page, it wrote that it improved performance for low-end devices or those watching YouTube on slower networks, while also "creates additional user controls to help reduce mobile data usage for data-constrained viewers".

Thanks to the improvements mentioned above, a specialized application is no longer necessary. However, YouTube Go was just as outdated, with its last update last October, and it didn't allow users to comment, create and publish content, or use dark mode. It still found its users when it reported over half a billion downloads in mid-2020.
