Cloud gaming is a great way for everyone to discover and play new games without having to download them to their device. Now, the multiplayer hit Fortnite has somewhat unexpectedly appeared in Microsoft's cloud service Xbox Cloud Gaming, and that's completely free.

The Xbox brand has built a very solid name on the traditional PC scene and in the field of cloud gaming. Both Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate are successful products that allow players to play as many games as they want for a monthly subscription. However, free-to-play games rarely come to streaming services like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Google Stadia, because it doesn't make much sense from a financial point of view.

However, that seems to be changing now. Xbox, through a partnership with Epic studio, has made the globally popular battle royale hit Fortnite available in the cloud without the need to pay for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It is thus the first ever game that can be played for free within the Xbox Cloud Gaming service. All you need is a Microsoft account and a stable internet connection on a device with Androidum iOS or PC. Game on Androidu run as follows:

  • Go to the page on your device Xbox.com/play.
  • Sign in to the cloud service with your Microsoft account.
  • Find Fortnite and tap on Play.

Touch controls are supported, so you don't have to connect a controller to your phone if you don't want to, but it's definitely recommended for playing a game like this on a mobile device. Microsoft has hinted that it wants to add more free-to-play titles to its cloud service in the future.
