Google suspended purchases in the country in March due to sanctions on Russia androidapplications and subscriptions. Starting May 5 (that is, today), the country's Google Play Store "also blocks downloads of already purchased paid apps and updates for paid apps." Free apps are not affected by the change.

On March 10, the Google Play billing system was suspended in Russia. The reason was the international sanctions imposed on the country due to its invasion of Ukraine. Google specifically advises this for apps that provide a "critical service to users that keeps them safe and gives them access to information."
